Using the Copilot Interface

Once you open the policy creation screen, you will see the Copilot interface on the left and a policy editor panel on the right.

  • Left Panel: Copilot Assistant

    • Copilot Introduction (v1.0.1158 beta): "Hello! I am Copilot, here to assist with generating alert policies..."

    • Usage Tip: Type 'help' at any time to view Copilot’s capabilities.

    • Important Disclaimer: "Please note that some of my answers may be incorrect, incomplete or misleading."

    • Interaction: Copilot will prompt you with “How can I help?” — you can ask natural language questions or describe the alert policy you want to create.

  • Right Panel: Policy Editor

This section displays a code-like structure where the generated alert policy appears. You can manually edit the policy fields, including:

    • name: Enter a clear and descriptive policy name.

    • description: Provide a brief explanation of the policy’s purpose

    • criteria: Define the triggering conditions for the alert

    • precedence: Set the priority of this policy

    • category: alert_handling, classify the policy under the correct category

  • Toolbar Actions

    • Upload File: Upload a predefined policy in a supported file format.

    • Save Policy: Save the current policy you’ve written or modified.

    • Cancel: Exit the policy creation screen without saving changes.

Virtana’s Copilot simplifies the process of creating custom alert policies by offering a conversational interface backed by AI. While it provides a helpful starting point, human validation is essential for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of your alerts.
