Creating Meter Cards

To configure on-premises cost management, you first need to create a Cost Meter Card. You can create Cost Meter Cards using the following methods:

  • Manual Creation via UI: You can manually create Cost Meter Cards by selecting and filling in the required fields. Manually created Cost Meter Cards are added to the existing Cost Meter Card File ID and displayed alongside other Cost Meter Cards.

  • Uploading a JSON File: Uploading a JSON file updates the version of the Cost Meter Card File for that organization. A new Cost Meter Card File ID is generated each time a JSON is uploaded. Only the Cost Meter Cards associated with the latest Cost Meter Card File ID will be displayed in the UI.

To create the Cost Meter Cards, follow the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Global View > Governance > On-Premises Cost Governance > Cost Meter Cards. The following details are displayed on the Cost Meter Cards page:

    Field

    Description

    Meter Name

    User-defined name for the Meter Card.

    Region

    Name of the isolated geographic area where the resource or service is provisioned.

    Provider

    Identifies the entity that made the resources or services available.

    Category

    Identifies the category of the Meter Card.

    Price

    Indicates the cost of the Meter Card.

    Billing Start Date

    Timestamp indicating the start of the billing period.

    Billing End Date

    Timestamp indicating the end of the billing period.

    Status

    Indicates whether the Meter Card is active or inactive.



  2. Click Create/Upload New Meter Card. The Create New Meter Card page is displayed. To create meter cards, you can either upload a JSON file or create them manually. Enter the following details to create a Meter Card manually:

    Meter Card Title

    User-defined title for the Meter Card.

    Billing Information

    Billing Period Start

    Timestamp indicating the start of the billing period.

    Billing Period End

    Timestamp indicating the end of the billing period.

    Currency

    Specifies the currency code (e.g., USD, INR).

    Pricing Information

    Category

    Identifies the category of the Meter Card.

    List Price Unit

    Indicates the cost per unit of the Meter Card.

    Quantity

    Refers to the volume of a given SKU associated with the Meter Card.

    Unit

    Specifies the provider-defined measurement unit.

    Location

    Region ID

    ID of the isolated geographic area where the resource or service is provisioned.

    Region Name

    Name of the isolated geographic area where the resource or service is provisioned.



  3. Enable the policy after specifying the criteria.

  4. You can optionally add additional parameters for cost calculations, such as SKU ID, Lienage of Charge, etc.

  5. Click Save to create the Meter Card. You can create multiple Meter Cards with different criteria for various use cases.

Based on the Cost Meter Cards, the On-Premises Storage and Compute Dashboards will show the cost of consumed resources.
