Reports
Use the Global View reports to measure how your monitoring and automation are performing. The Efficiency report shows the operational time that Virtana saves your organization, and the Executed Actions report shows which actions ran in response to your alerts and policies, and whether each action succeeded.
Actions are a crucial component of the monitoring ecosystem, where issues and problems are addressed. Actions vary based on several considerations, such as whether they are manual or automated, the need for approvals, the type of action, the nature of the impact, and whether they are simple "fire and forget" actions or part of a more complex workflow. The goal of the Virtana Platform is to let you select and use your preferred tools for automated actions, so that you can resolve problems quickly when they arise.
Key terms and concepts
The Global View reports use a set of terms to describe automated response. Understanding how these components interact within the Virtana Platform helps you manage and automate your response to monitoring alerts and take swift and appropriate action to maintain system performance and reliability. The following table defines each term:
Term | Definition |
|---|---|
Remediation | The concrete task or operation that Virtana can trigger, which can involve scripts, workflows, or external tools. |
Action provider | The external system or tool that supplies the actions. You can integrate any provider into the Virtana Platform with some development effort, for example, StackStorm or another external tool that your organization already uses. After you integrate a provider, the platform can trigger its actions automatically or manually. |
Action definition | The metadata for an action. You import action definitions into the Virtana Platform so that the platform can trigger the action. |
Action execution | A single run of an action, including its execution status, runtime parameter values, the output of intermediate steps, and logs. |
