Getting started with Virtana MCP

Follow these steps to connect your AI agent to Virtana:

  1. Choose your product

Decide which Virtana product you want the AI agent to connect to, such as:

    • Infrastructure Observability (IO)

    • Global View (GV)

  2. Obtain the right credentials

Ask your Virtana administrator for the correct access details before you begin. Depending on the product, this may include a bearer token, OAuth client credentials, or an API key.

  3. Configure your agent

Add the MCP server endpoint and the required request headers in your AI client or agent configuration.

  4. Test the connection

Send a simple prompt such as, “What data is available?” This helps confirm that the agent can reach the server and that authentication is working correctly.

Caution

Immediately after connecting to the Virtana MCP Server, don't ask complex or specific questions. The agent hasn't yet loaded the available schema, which includes entity types, properties, metrics, and relationships, and returns inaccurate or incomplete responses until it does.
