Update and Install Information
The .upd update bundles contain the files required to complete an upgrade to an existing installation and are available for an Appliance, Virtual Edition.

Upgrade Path
You can upgrade to this release directly from IO releases 7.2.3 - 2026.6.1.
Upgrading from other IO releases require assistance from Virtana. Please refer to the documents named Important_READ_before_an_upgrade_to_IO_2026.9.1-GA.pdf and Important_Update_Instructions_for_Firmware_2026.4.1.pdf for complete upgrade path information. These documents are located on Egnyte, Virtana's official software distribution tool.

New Installs
When doing a new install, it can take up to 45 minutes for all services to start.
Licensing Requirement
Tip
If uploading a new IO License as part of an update, you must reboot the IO Appliance or Virtual Edition after applying the new license. (If you do not reboot, you will see the message, “Error loading dashboard due to metrics and/or licensing issues.”)
Tasks Prior to Updating: Important
The following tasks should be completed before you begin a new installation or an update of IO .
Back up your IO Platform Appliance immediately before performing an update. Backups are not performed as part of the upgrade process.
IO Restore from Backup is supported for release 2026.9.1.
Remove all hotfixes before installing the IO update.
Warning
Factory reset before upgrade is not advisable, as it can cause issues.
Upgrade Tips
If you do a multi-hop update, ensure the update completes and all services are running before starting the next update. To verify that services are running, navigate to Settings > Service Management in IO .
After updating to this release, if a backup of a prior release is restored on the same appliance (i.e., appliance with the same UUID) that has been upgraded to this release, then the new license file will be overwritten. You must reapply the updated license after the system comes back up.
If you try to log in to IO before the update completes, you get an "unknown error" message.
You cannot run a backup until at least 24 hours after the update completes.
Updating When Using Integrations
If you plan to use any of the following integrations and they are not already enabled, enable them first.
The following integrations are included with the IO core package except where noted below. If licensed and already configured, they will be automatically upgraded to the versions listed.
Note
Integration bundles released prior to this IO version are not supported.
