Configuring a New Alert Rule in Container Observability
This topic provides an overview of the metric screen and its necessary fields for Metric rule and Log based alerts. To configure, see Alert Triggering.
The Metrics page lists the following details:
Rule Type: Select the type of rule “Metric or Log”. Based on the rule selected, Container Observability enables you to define conditions to trigger alert notifications to the respective channels.
Object Type: Select the type of object(entity) from the Object Type drop-down to apply the rule. Examples: Pods, Containers, Services, Host, VM, or even App objects.
Note
Note:
The query will be automatically populated for the selected Object Type.
Uncheck the check box to customize your query for the selected Object Type .
Condition Expression: define the new rule with appropriate expression commands used for Prometheus for any selected entity to receive an alert notification.
Note
Note: For a list of sample condition expressions for metric rules, click the :help_button_: help button on the Metric rule page.
On Breach and Off Breach: After the condition is defined, you can describe the alert message and set On Breach Timeout, so if an issue occurs based on the applied condition, Container Observability triggers an alert notification with an alert message for every set On Breach Timeout.
Similarly, for Off Breach, you can describe the alert message and set the off Breach Timeout. If any issue does not occur for the applied condition, the alert notification will be triggered along with an alert message for every set Off Breach Timeout.
Note
Note: Similarly, you can populate the necessary fields for the Log-Rule type. For a sample of log condition expressions, you can see help or refer to the below Log Rules documentation.
