AWS Idle Resources Reports

About AWS Idle Resources Reports

Keep track of all of your unused AWS resources with our Idle EBS Resources, Unattached ELB Resources, and Idle Elastic IP reports. Each report supports daily email notifications to keep you informed of changes.

To use the AWS Idle Resources reports, navigate to Cost Management, then select Idle Resources. Click on the AWS Idle Resources tab at the top of the page.

Idle EBS Resources Report

The Idle EBS Resources report shows you Elastic Block Storage resources that are no longer attached to an EC2 instance and EBS resources that are attached to stopped EC2 instances. The report shows you a snapshot of the resources at the point in time the report was run.

  1. Select the Idle EBS tab. The default report displays a list of all unattached EBS resources and EBS resources attached to stopped EC2 instances, sorted by monthly cost (highest to lowest).

    The report can be sorted by any of the available fields. Click on the field name to sort by the field in ascending or descending order.

  2. Click on CONFIGURE to change the report settings. You can change the scope of the idle resource analysis and the display options.

    Changing the Scope of Analysis

    Use the Include or Exclude fields to filter the report to include/exclude resources based on their name, cost attribute, or tag. For example, to filter the report by one or more availability zones, click on the Attributes dropdown in the Include row, scroll down to availabilityZone, then select the desired availability zones and click Apply.

    The report is filtered to show idle EBS resources for the selected availability zone.

    Changing the Display Settings

    You can change the field used to sort the report. Click on the Sorting dropdown and choose a different field to sort the report. In the example below, we'll change the report to sort by the Region field, and the sort order to Ascending.

    The report is now sorted by Region, in ascending order.

Additional Report Options

A number of additional report options are available for the report:

  1. Downloadthe report in CSV format.

  2. Save the report.

    You can set up a schedule to send the report on a daily basis to yourself or members of your team by selecting the Send Daily Email button and selecting an email address from the drop-down list. You can also enter a new email address.

    To disable the daily emailed report, select the report from the drop-down and click on the pencil icon.

    Toggle the Send Daily Email button to the off position.

  3. Clear all report settings (return to default report settings).

  4. Rerun the report (refresh the report data to the current point in time).

  5. Exclude an element from the report. Click on the element name to view a pop up that lets you exclude that element from the current report view.

Unattached ELB Resources Report

The Unattached ELB Resources report shows you Elastic Load Balancer resources that do not have EC2 instances attached to them. The report shows you a snapshot of the unattached resources at the point in time the report was run.

The report includes data on the following types of ELB resources:

  • Application Load Balancer (ALB)

  • Network Load Balancer (NLB)

  • Classic Load Balancer (CLB)

  1. Select the Unattached ELB tab. The default report displays a list of all unattached ELB resources sorted by monthly cost (highest to lowest). The Type field shows you the load balancer type: Application, Network, or Classic.

  2. Click on CONFIGURE to change the report settings. You can change the scope of the idle resource analysis and the display options.

Idle Elastic IP Resources Report

The Idle Elastic IP Resources report shows you Elastic IP resources that are attached to stopped EC2 instances or not associated with any EC2 instance. The report shows you a snapshot of the resources at the point in time the report was run.

  1. Select the Idle Elastic IP tab. The default report displays a list of all unattached Elastic IP resources and Elastic IP resources attached to stopped EC2 instances, sorted by monthly cost (highest to lowest).
