Global View UI Analytics Platform

The Virtana Web Analytics Platform dashboard in Global View is designed for power users who need to monitor user activity, analyse usage, and generate reports.

Dashboard Overview

This dashboard helps you track user activity, identify the most frequently accessed pages, and spot peak usage periods. It includes the following key views and filters:

  • Tenant (Organisation/User Logged In): Displays which organisations and users are active.

  • Pages: Shows which features or pages are accessed most frequently.

  • Date Picker: Filters data by selected time periods (daily, weekly, monthly, or custom ranges).

Managing User Access

To invite users and assign roles, log in to Virtana Web Analytics Platform.

  • Navigate to Administration > Users in Matomo.

  • Add a new user by entering their email address.

  • Assign the appropriate role such as viewer or administrator.

Working with Segments

Segments allow you to isolate and analyze subsets of traffic. Segmentation can be applied by tenant, page, or behavioral criteria.

Example: Limit data to visits from a specific tenant (e.g., Org A).

Steps to create a segment:

Define filter conditions (Tenant, Page Title, Event, etc.).

  1. Open the Segment dropdown (default is All Visits).

  2. Select Add New Segment

  3. Define filter conditions (Tenant, Page Title, Event, etc.).

  4. Save and Apply the segment.

Visits Log

You can use the Visits Log to view raw, event-level data for each tenant session. It shows details such as the tenant ID, a list of visited pages, and the time spent on each page. This information is useful for day-to-day business activities, such as validating user engagement or investigating usability and other issues reported by tenants.

Entry Page

Entry Pages show the first page a user accesses after logging in, while Page Titles provide human-readable identifiers. These insights help you identify high-traffic landing paths and assess the adoption of targeted Global View UI features.

Email Reports

You can automate reports and deliver them directly to stakeholders by email.

To set this up, go to Personal > Email Reports.

From there, choose the dashboard or segment to include, set the delivery frequency (daily, weekly, or monthly), and add recipients such as Product or Customer Success teams. Once saved, reports are sent automatically.

  • Example: ·       Weekly: Top tenants by activity  and Monthly: Most visited pages per tenant

Data Retention and Storage Management

By default, Matomo stores visit data indefinitely. To optimize performance and manage storage, you can set a retention policy in the data management settings and purge older visit logs.

Feature Comparison

  • Matomo (Self-Hosted) offers strong capabilities, including native and plugin-based email reports, detailed user tracking with IDs and custom dimensions, organization-based filtering through custom dimensions, built-in top pages reporting, and full multi-site management.

  • Open Panel (Self-Hosted) supports custom user properties for tracking, built-in top pages reporting, and multi-site support, but does not offer native email reports and requires manual setup for org-based filtering.

  • Plausible (Self-Hosted) provides scheduled email reports via API, limited user tracking with anonymous IDs and custom properties through JavaScript, and requires setup for org-based filtering. However, it does support built-in top pages reporting and multi-site management.
