Creating a New Discovery Instance
You must create at least one discovery instance to pull in metrics data for each integration.
Prerequisites
Access to the device is required for discovery to occur. Only username and password access is supported.
Ensure that all items identified in Installation Prerequisites have been met.
About This Task
For collecting metrics, the username associated with the discovery instance must have restricted administrative access or higher.
The metrics polling interval is initially defaulted to the statistics polling interval (generation frequency) set in SVC itself. Therefore, the polling interval setting in the SVC Integration is not configurable when creating an SVC instance.
Important
If you change the statistics generation frequency setting in your SVC cluster after creating an SVC Integration instance in IO, then you must change the polling frequency in the SVC Integration instance. See Modifying the Polling Frequency.
Steps
From the Settings page, click Integrations in the Probes and Integrations section.
Click View for the licensed integration you want to configure.
If this is an initial configuration: You are directed to the New Integration page to configure the first integration.
If there are existing configurations: The Integration page opens, displaying a list of all existing licensed and unlicensed configurations.
Complete the connection details so Virtana Infrastructure Observability can collect metrics from the device.
Set the name or IP address of the device that the integration must access to collect metrics.
Optional: Select Use Private Key if using an SSH private key.
Enter a username and password or passphrase (for SSH private key).
Important: For collecting metrics, the user must have restricted administrative access or higher, so the cpdump command can be issued.
Optional: Specify the SSH port to use (default is 27) and browse to add the SSH private key file.
When configuration is complete, discovery of entities begins. It might be several minutes before data begins to display in the IO UI.
If a license has already been installed, the Licensing Status field displays Licensed-OK and the integration instance will be automatically subscribed.
Verify the subscription status of the integration from the integration page.
The Status column should read Subscribed.
Click the Inventory tab and verify that the host entities display under the Compute category.
Click Next.
The integration performs a quick discovery to verify the user permissions, to identify statistics generation frequency, and to list the identified nodes.
The Configuration tab displays information about the integration.
Set the Subscription status to Subscribed and select a Discovery Time and Frequency.
Click Save.
Click Start Discovery if you want to start a discovery immediately.
You can start discovery now, or wait to start at a later time.
Note
If your configuration node changes in your SVC environment, then you must manually edit the cluster name or IP address field to match the new SVC configuration node.
