The "On-Premise Storage Array Capacity Summary" dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of storage capacity metrics for various vendors or sites within an organization's on-premise infrastructure.

This dashboard offers insights into total capacity, and usage trends, and identifies top storage arrays based on capacity utilisation.

Key features:

  • Total Capacity Overview: This section displays the total storage capacity available across all on-premise storage arrays. It provides a summary of both free and used capacity. Users can quickly assess the overall storage capacity status to ensure efficient resource allocation and avoid potential bottlenecks.

  • Capacity Usage Trend by Vendor: The dashboard offers a graphical representation of capacity usage trends over time, categorized by vendor. This allows users to track storage consumption patterns and forecast future capacity needs. Vendors such as NetApp, Pure Storage, IBM, and others are individually analyzed, providing insights into their respective contributions to overall storage usage.

  • Top Storage Arrays by Usage Capacity %: This section highlights the storage arrays that are currently experiencing the highest levels of capacity utilization, expressed as a percentage of their total capacity. By identifying arrays nearing capacity limits, administrators can proactively allocate resources or implement storage optimisation strategies to prevent performance degradation or downtime.

  • Top Storage Arrays by Free Capacity %: Conversely, this segment identifies storage arrays with the highest proportion of free capacity relative to their total capacity. Understanding which arrays have ample free space enables administrators to redistribute workloads or prioritize storage allocation, optimizing resource utilization across the infrastructure.

Total Capacity

The "Total Capacity" section on the "On-Premise Storage Array Capacity" dashboard provides a detailed breakdown of the overall storage capacity within the specified site and vendor context. It includes the following key metrics:

  • Used Capacity: This metric represents the amount of storage space currently utilized by data on the on-premise storage arrays. It is typically measured in terabytes (TB) or other relevant units. In the provided example, the used capacity is 115.79 TB, which accounts for 36.78% of the total available capacity.

  • Free Capacity: Free capacity denotes the portion of storage space that remains unallocated or unused on the storage arrays. It represents the available storage capacity that can be utilized for storing additional data. In the given scenario, the free capacity is 199.00 TB, comprising 63.22% of the total available capacity.

Capacity Summary

The "Capacity Summary" page provides a comprehensive overview of storage capacity utilization within the organization's on-premise infrastructure.

  1. Filter Options: Users can filter the data by site and vendor, allowing them to focus on specific subsets of the storage infrastructure. The listing of sites depends on the configuration of the customer's appliance.

  2. Capacity Summary Graph: This graphical representation illustrates the utilization of storage capacity over time, with data displayed month-wise.The graph distinguishes between used and free capacity using distinct colors. Blue represents used capacity, indicating the amount of storage space currently allocated to data. Grey denotes free capacity, representing the available storage space that has not yet been utilized. Users can hover over the graph to view detailed information for each data point, including the specific values of used and free capacity for the selected month.

  3. Time Range Selection: Users have the flexibility to select the desired time range for viewing capacity data. They can choose a specific month within the available six-month window from the current date. This feature enables users to track capacity trends over time, identify usage patterns, and assess the effectiveness of capacity management efforts.

  4. You have the option to download the images in PNG, JPEG, PDF, or SVG vector formats. Additionally, you can print the chart and view it in full screen by clicking on the icon.png icon.

  5. In the Capacity Summary tab, you can delve into a filtered summary with more detailed insights. This includes the ability to view specific site or vendor details, as well as granular information about individual storage arrays. For each storage array, you can observe the total terabytes (TB) used, represented as a percentage of total capacity, along with the amount of free TB and its corresponding percentage. This breakdown enables a thorough examination of storage utilization and availability within the selected context.

Capacity Usage Trend by Vendor

The Capacity Usage Trend by Vendor feature helps administrators track how storage space is used by different companies. It lets users look at details for vendors like NetApp, Dell, and IBM. The feature shows this data in graphs, making it easier to understand. Also, it compares data from this month to data from the past 6 months.

Capacity Usage Trend

The Capacity Usage Trend feature within the dashboard provides users with insights into the historical trends of storage capacity utilization.

  1. Navigate to the Capacity Usage Trend section within the dashboard interface.

  2. Upon accessing the feature, users will be presented with options to filter data by vendor and site.

  3. Grouping Capacity: Grouping capacity by vendor or site provides users with a consolidated view of storage capacity trends for specific vendors or sites.

  4. Timeframe Selection: Users can view capacity usage trends for various timeframes, including the last 6, 3, 9, and 12 months.

  5. Graphical Visualization: Users can choose to view graphs depicting either total capacity or used capacity, providing insights into overall storage capacity trends or utilization patterns.

  6. You have the option to download the images in PNG, JPEG, PDF, or SVG vector formats. Additionally.

    You can print the chart and view it in full screen by clicking on the icon.png icon.

  7. Tabular Representation: The table presents capacity trend data for different vendors, organized in rows, with columns representing various metrics and details.

    • Vendor Name: The name of the storage vendor.

    • Used TB: The total used terabytes (TB) of storage capacity for each vendor.

    • Timeframe: The selected timeframe for capacity trend analysis, up to 6 months. You can view the timeframe in the format of month/year, for example: Sept 2023.

    • Array Details: Additional details about individual storage arrays associated with each vendor.

Top Storage Array by Usage Capacity %

The "Top Storage Array by Usage Capacity %" overview provides critical insights into the storage arrays within the infrastructure that are approaching or surpassing their capacity limits.

  • Storage Array Identification: This section identifies the specific storage array that currently has the highest percentage of usage capacity relative to its total capacity.

  • Usage Capacity %: The metric represents the proportion of the total storage capacity of the selected array that is currently being utilized.

  • Used Capacity Trend: This component illustrates the historical trend in the usage capacity of the top storage array over time. Administrators can observe whether the usage capacity is steadily increasing, decreasing, or remaining stable.

  • At 80% Capacity: Our analytic model forecasts when a particular storage array will reach 80% capacity, allowing customers or users to take proactive measures to prevent running out of space. If our prediction models anticipate reaching 80% capacity in more than two years, it displays "> 2 years" for simplicity.

  • Show More: Click Show More, and it will redirect you to the Storage Array Utilization page.

Storage Array Utilization

"Storage Array Utilization" is a dashboard feature that provides comprehensive insights into the utilization of storage arrays within an organization's infrastructure.

  1. Filter Options: Users can apply filters based on vendor and site, allowing them to narrow down the data to specific subsets of storage arrays within the organization's infrastructure.

  2. Graphical Representation: The dashboard presents data in graphical format, facilitating visual analysis and interpretation. Users can select different options to view specific metrics related to storage array utilization.

  3. Options for Displayed Metrics: Users have the flexibility to choose from various metrics to display in the graph. These metrics include:

    • Top Storage Array by Total Capacity: Displays storage arrays ranked by their total capacity.

    • Top Storage Array by Used Capacity: Ranks storage arrays based on their used capacity.

    • Top Storage Array by Used Capacity%: Ranks storage arrays based on the percentage of used capacity relative to total capacity.

    • Top Storage Array by Free Capacity: Ranks storage arrays based on their free capacity.

    • Top Storage Array by Free Capacity%: Ranks storage arrays based on the percentage of free capacity relative to total capacity.

  4. In addition to graphical representation, the "Storage Array Utilization" dashboard also offers a tabular format for quick reference and detailed analysis. The table provides a structured view of storage array details. The table includes columns displaying the following details for each storage array:

    • Vendor: Identifies the vendor of the storage array.

    • Model: Specifies the model or type of the storage array.

    • Total TB: Indicates the total storage capacity of the array in terabytes (TB).

    • Used TB %: Represents the percentage of the total capacity that is currently in use.

    • Used TB: Shows the amount of storage space currently utilized by data on the array.

    • Free TB: Displays the remaining available storage space on the array.

    • Free %: Indicates the percentage of free capacity relative to the total capacity.

    • Time to 80% Capacity: Estimates the time remaining until the storage array reaches 80% capacity utilization, based on current usage trends and historical data.

Top Storage Array by Free Capacity %

The "Top Storage Array by Free Capacity %" metric serves as a valuable indicator of available storage resources within the organization's infrastructure. It enables administrators to identify arrays with significant free capacity, track capacity trends, and effectively manage storage resources to ensure optimal performance and data availability.

It serves as a focal point for administrators to understand which arrays have ample space available for additional data storage.

  2. Free Capacity %: This metric represents the proportion of the total storage capacity of the selected array that is currently unallocated or unused. For example, if a storage array has a free capacity of 70%, it means that 70% of its total capacity is available for storing additional data.

  3. Total Capacity: The dashboard also provides information on the total capacity of the selected storage array. This metric helps administrators understand the overall storage capacity of the array and its potential for accommodating future data growth.

  4. Trend Analysis: Administrators can view the trend in free capacity over time for the top storage array. This trend analysis enables them to identify any patterns or fluctuations in free capacity and make informed decisions regarding capacity management and resource allocation.

  5. Show More: Click Show More, and it will redirect you to the Storage Array Utilization page.
