Entity Import

Entity import enables you to perform entity creation or modification in bulk by importing JSON files. You can use import to do two things:

  • Create an entity hierarchy from discovered entities

  • Add or modify device nicknames (alias mappings) for port-level entities

Entity import allows the creation of entities in the database. You must use a JSON v2 import file with a specific, predefined format. The file defines VirtualWisdom entities and initiator-target-LUN (ITL) patterns. It allows adding application, host-side and storage-side entities, and configuring ITL patterns with applications. Import of WWN-Nickname mappings is allowed.

Creating a hierarchy through import is optional. Entity matching to create the hierarchy can be done as part of entity import or from the UI using the Entities tab.

When you add children to an entity, the metrics associated with the children of that entity are applied retroactively. This is useful in reports and charts because you can see the historical metrics of the child entities after the creation of the parent.
