Configure Alert Notifications

This topic helps users to configure and upload YAML files to receive alert notifications for their respective notification channels.

To configure channels, you need to perform the following:

  1. Log in to the Container Observability Application.

  2. On the sidebar menu, navigate to Admin > Rules > Alert notifications.

  3. Click Upload to upload the YAML file where you have already configured desired notification channels to receive the alerts.

  4. Click Help for YAML file reference as required.

  5. After the YAML file is uploaded, click Save.

Note: Click the Edit button to edit the YAML file configurations if the system displays an error message on the right pane.

Configure endpoints for the notification channels

After you have defined new Alert-Rules for Alert notifications, you must configure the receiver's endpoint in the YAML configuration file in the Alert notifications for different channels. You can also upload the configured YAML file in the Alert notification or they can use the reference YAML file available in the Help section. Note: You can configure the multiple receivers with multiple platforms in the YAML file supported by the Container Observability to receive the Alert notifications.

You can receive the required Alert notifications for email by adding the receiver's email address. The subject and message in email_configs for the Alert notifications are fixed and default.

Slack configuration

You can receive Alert notifications triggered by Container Observability to their respective Slack service. Configure by providing the “channel and webhook_url url of receivers. The notifications are pushed to their Slack channel.

Microsoft Teams configuration

You can receive Alert notifications triggered by Container Observability to Microsoft Teams. Configure by providing the “channel and webhook_url of the receivers in teams_configs. The notifications are pushed to their Teams channel. Alert messages are fixed as default in the YAML.

Mattermost configuration

Container Observability supports Alert notifications for open-source channels like Mattermost. Configure by providing the “URL, port number, channel name, and the token” of the receiver in the mattermost_configs. The notifications are pushed to their Teams. Alert messages are fixed as default in the YAML.

Opsgenie configuration

Container Observability supports Alert notifications to Opsgenie which is a modern incident management platform that ensures critical incidents are never missed and categorizes each alert based on importance and timing. In opsgenie_configs, you need to configure by defining the necessary api_key and the following fields as shown:

Configure Alert Routing

You can configure Alerts created apart from the RuleEngine to forward for all service channels by default based on the receiver’s requirements. You can also configure ML-based Alerts or Rule-based Alerts to be forwarded to service channels as per your requirements.
